Time & Billing Basics
Lawyers spend billable time in Zeiten (/zeiten); invoices and collections live under Finanzen (/finanzen). This guide covers everyday lawyer tasks — not full bookkeeping.
Zeiten (time recording)
List view
/zeiten shows your time entries with filters by date, Akte, billable status, and approval state.
Weekly grid
Switch to the week view to enter time in a spreadsheet-style grid — efficient for filling a full week at once.
Stopwatch
Start a timer when beginning work on an Akte; stop it when done to create an entry with elapsed duration.
Create an entry
Choose Akte, activity type (e.g. consultation, research), duration, and description.
Mark billable
Toggle billable unless the time is non-chargeable per firm policy.
Submit
At period end, submit entries for approval by a partner or Kanzleimanager.
Approved time can be pulled into invoices.
Finanzen hub (overview)
Finanzen (/finanzen) is a separate navigation hub with sections for:
| Section | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Übersicht | KPI dashboard |
| Abrechnung | Invoices, expenses, RVG fees |
| Forderungen | Open items, dunning |
| Bank | Reconciliation |
| Fremdgeld | Client trust accounts |
| Buchhaltung | DATEV, journal (finance roles) |
Most lawyers only need Abrechnung for creating and sending invoices.
Create an invoice from an Akte
Open the Akte → Finance tab
Review unbilled time and expenses.
Start invoice
Create a new invoice from billable items or RVG calculation where configured.
Review and finalize
Adjust line items, apply advances, generate PDF.
Send or export
Email to client or export for accounting.
RVG/GKG calculators and DATEV export are powerful but admin-heavy. Ask your Buchhaltung contact for firm-specific procedures.
