Inline AI (⌘K)

2 min readUpdated Mar 25, 2026

How It Works

Press K anywhere in your document. A compact input appears at your cursor position. Type a command and the AI applies it instantly.

With Selected Text

Select text first, then press K. The AI operates on your selection:

  • "Make this more formal"
  • "Simplify this paragraph"
  • "Translate to German"
  • "Convert to a bullet list"
  • "Expand with more detail"
  • "Shorten to one sentence"

Without Selection

Without a selection, ⌘K works on the full document or generates new content at your cursor:

  • "Add a heading here"
  • "Insert a table of contents"
  • "Draft a conclusion paragraph"

Ghost Text

The AI can also provide inline suggestions as you type — gray "ghost text" that appears ahead of your cursor. Press Tab to accept, or keep typing to ignore.

Ghost text works best when you've written a few sentences first. The AI uses your recent context to predict what comes next.

Actions via ⌘K

Beyond AI prompts, ⌘K also works as a command palette:

  • Type / for slash commands
  • Type > for actions (new document, export, toggle dark mode)
  • Type ? to search help articles
  • No prefix = AI prompt (default)

Results blend across categories. Typing "table" shows: "Insert Table" (action), formatting help (article), and recent documents with "table" in the title.
